The Publishing Model The book will be independently published through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), allowing you to retain full copyright, creative control, and editorial control. This model offers a higher royalty rate than traditional publishing, and includes worldwide distribution with print-on-demand fulfillment. Editions will include Hardcover, Paperback, and Kindle eBook formats, with optional audiobook and multilingual production available as separate processes.
The Five Phases of Publication
Phase 1 — Discovery & Book Planning This initial stage sets the foundation with strategy meetings, story direction development, and discussions on audience and positioning. It also covers working title concepts, chapter outline development, timeline planning, and narrative structure guidance.
Deliverables: A book roadmap, chapter structure, and a production timeline.
Phase 2 — Interviews & Research This phase gathers the raw material through recorded interviews with you and supplemental interviews with selected family or team members. It incorporates timeline and historical research, organization of photographs and press materials, and story development support.
Deliverables: Interview transcripts, an organized research archive, and detailed narrative notes.
Phase 3 — Ghostwriting & Manuscript Development This is where the writing and development of the manuscript take place, featuring narrative shaping, editing, and voice and tone refinement. The process includes two revision rounds and final manuscript polishing for an estimated book length of 40,000 to 60,000 words.
Deliverables: The completed manuscript and a revised editorial draft.
Phase 4 — Editing, Formatting & Amazon KDP Preparation This phase prepares the book for publication with proofreading and interior formatting for the hardcover, paperback, and Kindle editions. It also handles the Amazon KDP upload preparation, which includes crafting the product description, back cover copy, author bio, and metadata and keyword optimization.
Deliverables: Print-ready files, Kindle-ready files, and the complete Amazon upload package.
Phase 5 — Launch Strategy & Media Positioning The final phase focuses on book launch recommendations, press release development, and podcast or media positioning guidance. It also outlines social media rollout recommendations, a launch timeline, and hospitality/media outreach concepts.
Deliverables: A launch strategy document, promotional recommendations, and PR guidance materials.
